Pulsafeeder—Solving Caustic Issues with Chemical Pumps
April 6, 2021 – The Woodlands, TX – Caustic Soda (Sodium Hydroxide) is commonly used in water, wastewater, and industrial applications. Caustic Soda is used in many industries like chemical, food and beverage, water purification, cleaning agents, pH neutralization, etc.
Caustic is a slippery chemical that will find any potential leak paths for all chemical metering pumps and piping systems. When water is added to caustic is causes an exothermic reaction and when exposed to air the chemical will crystalize forming a white scale.
Solving the Caustic Issues
- Simple regular maintenance on pump will prevent major issues.
- The wet end head bolts should be checked regularly and evenly tightened as needed.
- Suction and discharge valves should be hand tightened and/or removed and cleaned.
- When PTFE seats are ordered with PULSAtron pumps, the pumps are supplied with double ball guided seats for better sealing, but CSPE elastomer seats are recommended for optimal sealing.
- Order an annual KOPkit (repair kit) from Pulsafeeder.
