Robert Ackerly Builds Van’s RV-12 Aircraft
The students at Montgomery High School in Montgomery, TX built two Van’s RV-12 Aircraft that were certified by the FAA. Both airplanes were constructed as part of the school’s Aerospace Engineering course and have been flown by the students and their teacher. The builds were made possible through the Eagle’s Nest Project. Eagle’s Nest Projects utilizes an extensive network of mentors and educators who live their motto, “Mentors build the student…students build the Aircraft”. Every aspect of construction, sheet metal, fiberglass, wiring, and engine controls are completed by the students. One of these students is Kathleen’s son, Robert Ackerly. Robert is an incoming Senior at MHS and built the plane his Sophomore year. To be able to say he built his first airplane at 15 years old is a great accomplishment. Robert intends to pursue an Aerospace Engineering Degree at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL.
