The U.S. House passed the College Fire Prevention ACT. This will help life safety issues in residence halls and other campus housing. Legislation will provide matching grants to sprinkler these facilities. Over the 10-year period from 2000 to 2009, fires in student housing resulted in 136 fire deaths, according to the National Fire Protection Association.

Retrofitting campus housing with fire sprinkler systems can be challenging.  Many colleges and universities want the work performed after the students vacate the residence halls for summer recess.  Other issues include installation tight against exposed ceilings, and field revisions due to unforeseen obstructions. Because Harvel® CPVC Fire Sprinkler pipe is easy to fabricate in the field with simple tools, any necessary adjustments can be completed on the job without difficulty or re-engineering. Since Harvel CPVC pipe is lightweight and easy to work with, installation time is reduced, lowering overall costs.

Harvel® BlazeMaster® CPVC pipe provides a complete retrofit solution for campus fire sprinkler applications. Additional information can be found at www.harvelsprinklerpipe.com.  Download the article on the College Fire Prevention Act at www.foustmarketing.com/pdf_files/fmi/cfpa.pdf.
