The U.S. House passed the College
Fire Prevention ACT. This will help life safety issues in residence halls
and other campus housing. Legislation will provide matching grants to
sprinkler these facilities. Over the 10-year period from 2000 to 2009, fires
in student housing resulted in 136 fire deaths, according to the National
Fire Protection Association.
